March 19, 2012 – The committee of LCWS is grateful for the Co-Operators’ consideration of LCWS’ work over the past year and in awarding us with this Community Award.

Project Update: Salmon Sampling

April 12, 2012 – We are looking for volunteers to take part in this weekend’s data collection at the Sedrick River embankment. This is part of our ongoing project to collect data and map salmon populations. If you are interested in participating please contact LCWS coordinators before Friday.

The Telegraph Newspaper

September 20, 2012 – The Telegraph examines a controversial topic regarding mix-land uses in some parts of the city. LCWS was interviewed to offer insight about the subject. The main concerns were about the long-term affects of wildlife and land erosion depending on how the land is modified.

Statement from the Committee

November 2, 2012 – LCWS would like to thankĀ  a number of media outlets as well as the public who have been in contact ever since the article was published. We are happy to see so much interest regarding the development of land in our communities. A number of great points have been raised and we plan to issue a further statement about this in the near future.

New Partner Announcement

January 13, 2013 – A new year means new beginnings. LCWS is pleased to announce that we have brought on a new partner: Cook With Pressure. It is a website run by a group of chefs blogging about the best pressure cooker and promising unbiased reviews. They are trying to promote the sustainable use of our food sources and together, we will form new programs to educate about food in relation to the entire ecosystem.

February 10, 2013 – Richard, who is part of the LCWS committee for those who do not know, is going to be starting a new position at BC Parks. Richard has been an integral part to the development of LCWS in the last 3 years. He will pass on most of his duties to his fellow committee members as a result of this new role.

LCWS Fellowship Opportunity

April 12, 2013 – Have you always wanted to do research in beautiful British Columbia – especially amongst nature? Then this is your opportunity to do just that! LCWS is very excited to announce this PhD Fellowship Opportunity for an independent, self-motivated individual to conduct research on conservation and wildlife. You must be a current PhD student at a university in Canada to participate. For more information and an application brochure, please send an email to our coordinators. Seeking Research Volunteer

May 5, 2013 – LCWS has two new and exciting Conservation Research Volunteer opportunities to offer. Ideally, we are looking for college or university-level students who have past field experience and can commit to a period of 6-months starting July.

August 3, 2013 – The LCWS would not exist if it were not for the countless technical, financial, and pro bono support of our many amazing partners. The only way we can achieve our goals is if we work collaboratively with people from all walks of life. That said, LCWS would like to extend a warm welcome to our new photographer Jeffrey, who will join our already impressive list of volunteers.
