Save the Little Campbell Committee

Our committee is a group of concerned individuals and community groups that are devoted to ensuring the sustainable development of the City of Surrey’s Campbell Heights development, formerly “Stokes Pit”.  This committee was formed because of concerns about the development of Phase I of Campbell Heights.

Development affects fish and wildlife but it also affects human health.  Many groundwater issues are associated with development like quantity, turbidity and odour, residents around development sites that depend on well water need to be concerned about the quality and quantity of their drinking water.

The Little Campbell Watershed needs to be saved!  As home to countless numbers of wildlife, salmon and unique habitats the Little Campbell River is a jewel that must be preserved through sustainable developmental practices.

Achievements

     - Moratorium put in place to halt phase II of the Campbell Heights development
pending the formulation of environmentally sound development practices
     - City of Surrey revised plan for rehabilitation of problems that occurred
during phase I development of Campbell Heights
     - Engaged over 100 community members at public meetings pertaining to the
       Campbell Heights development
     - Offered our group as an advisory group to the City of Surrey to facilitate
       sustainable development of Campbell Heights
     - Raised awareness of the unacceptable development practices of the
       Campbell Heights development phase I
     - Our committee is seen as an objective group of community members don’t
personalize issues but instead work proactively to make positive change for
       the Little Campbell Watershed
